Your job is to eat every piece of fruit before something catches you, and your one real tool is the ability to freeze the floor: you can raise a line of ice blocks in front of you, and smash them again just as quickly.

It plays more like a puzzle than an action game. You spend a lot of each level standing still for a second and working out where a monster will turn up next, then building a wall to cut off that route. On Snow Rider that makes it a slower, thinking counterpart to the bike runs, and a good pick when you want a few relaxed minutes rather than a reflex test. It loads in the browser with nothing to install.

How to play

Use the arrow keys to walk around the grid. Click inside the game once so the keys reach it. On a phone, tap and hold the on-screen sides to steer. The game supports one or two players, so a friend can share the same keyboard.

The ice action is the heart of it. Your ice cream breathes a row of blocks in the direction you face, and pressing the same action again breaks the row apart. On desktop this is normally the space bar, so check the on-screen prompt if it does not respond. A level ends when the last fruit is gone, and a monster touching you costs the run.

Blocks do two jobs. Set down as a barrier, they close a corridor and hold a monster back. Broken, they open a path to fruit that was sealed behind them, and they can crush a monster caught in the wrong spot in some cases.

Tips

• Build walls before you need them. A block placed when a monster is two tiles away is often too late; place it when you first see it turning towards you.
• Clear fruit in a loop rather than zig-zagging. Ending a sweep next to the last pieces saves a long walk back through monster territory.
• Do not wall yourself in. An ice line that blocks your only exit is as dangerous as a monster.
• Watch how each monster moves. Some wander randomly, others chase, and the chasers are the ones to trap first.
